FERTILIZING

Other than stocking high quality, genetically superior fish and supplemental stocking, fertilizing is probably the most important and effective investment one can make to his or her pond. Fertilizing can increase your pond's productivity by 300 to 400 percent; that's, 3 to 4 times the growth! Using the concept of applying fertilizer to a garden, well, the same ideals apply when managing a pond. In a pond, however, the phytoplankton (microscopic plants), which are the very base of the food chain, are the primary beneficiaries of pond fertilization. The youngest of the fish classes, and other aquatic organisms feed from this level. Then, the next sized fish class feeds on the level below it; and so on and so forth. Well, it doesn't take very long before trophy “lunker” bass are being grown in short periods of time.

When used with liming, fertilization will produce healthier, larger, and more fish. Another benefit from liming and fertilizing is weed control. Granted, if a pond is initially overrun with weeds and/or algae, they need to be gotten under control first; because the noxious weeds will absorb the added nutrients. Contrary to most lake services companies, your water impoundment does not have to be a biological desert. When a healthy plankton “bloom” is present, the amount of sunlight allowed to reach the pond bottom is greatly reduced; and in turn, so are the amount of noxious weeds that grow in a pond. We provide a fertilization service where a trained technician comes and fertilizes your pond for you on a fixed schedule throughout the growing season (March - October). During these scheduled services, we will also evaluate weed problems, water levels, fountains and aerators, etc.
