When looking at a pond, very few people are concerned with, or even think about, how the contours of the ponds bottom are laid out. To most, how the pond looks above the surface is most important, but to a fisherman, what's below the surface takes highest priority. One of the worst mistakes that can be made when constructing a pond is not taking the time to carefully plan out a pond's subsurface design. Far too often, landowners and contractors basically just dig a hole; thus, creating a very large fish bowl, or “bathtub.” No special interest is taken into spawning areas and fishing habitat. So in the long run, particular fish populations decrease, and the ability to actually catch a fish is almost non-existent. Coastal Plain Land and Lakes specializes in the installation of various types of pond liners. In most areas, the installation of a pond liner is not necessary. But, if your land is made up of predominantly sandy soils, and the upper limits of the water table is well below the bottom of the pond, then a pond liner may be required in order to have a successful pond; regardless of the amount of watershed draining into the pond. Over the years, we've witnessed a whole lot of dry holes that were intended to be ponds; most of these being located in Florida. The installation of a pond liner is the answer to the problem. Installing a pond liner does add cost to the construction of a pond; but in the long run, the benefits of adding an amenity such as a pond to your land far exceed the cost of it. Not only do ponds provide recreational enjoyment and a feature that's pleasing to look at, they also increase the value of the land that they are on by a great deal. We install 3 types of membranes: PVC, RLLDPE (Reinforced Linear-Low Density Polyethylene), and EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer).
